Boarding your first flight

For experienced air travelers, boarding a plane is not so big deal. But for those who are boarding it for the first time, following are some helpful tips.

Not to forget documents:
  1. Ticket (computer printout of what you have booked)
  2. An original valid ID proof like Passport, Driving License, Voter Id, Pan Card. (of all those who are travelling)
Process to Board the Flight:
  1. Reach Airport (reach there at least 2 hours earlier than the flight's time)
  2. You see gates to go inside with police standing on gates.
  3. Show them your ticket & ID proof. After that they will allow you to go inside.
  4. Now search for the section of your airways (Spice jet, Jet Airways, Kingfisher, Indigo etc.) and go there.
  5. Search your flight name( Spicejet Delhi to Pune) on the monitors or the board and go to that queue to check in.
  6. Check in means: Show your ticket(print out of booked ticket) and ID proof to collect boarding pass. Boarding pass will have your seat number, flight number and gate number from where you will get your flight. Also tell them which seat you prefer( Window, Middle, Aisle).
  7. They will also take your big bag. This bag should not be more than 20kg (check with airline about specifications). Big Bag is called as check in bag....... after giving your luggage to them you need not to bother about it, now it's their responsibility.
What if weight of your luggage increases? Be prepared to pay a hefty price. Airlines typically charge you to check bags that meet their size and weight limits.
  8. They will allow you with your laptop bag and your cabin/carrry-on bag which should not be more than 8 kg in weight(check with airline about specifications).
  9. Now pass through security check (for security check they will check you and your cabin/carry-on bags. Do not forget to tie tag with your cabin bag which are available at ticket counter. Put your Laptop, mobiles, jackets in a tray provided there. The staff will use an X-ray inspection machine to confirm the safety of items in your carry-on/ cabin luggage.

    • Make sure any sharp objects, scissors are not there in your checked in bags.
    • Remove your laptop from its case or bag, and place that in a separate tray.

Pick up your all these things after passing through the metal detector, and proceed to your boarding gate. Do not put liquid and metal things in your carry-on / cabin bags.
  10. Once you clear that you will reach in one big hall.
  11. Now find out your gate number from your boarding pass. They will allow you to go inside plane around 30 minutes before your flight time. Your airline staff will assist you and take you in their Bus to your plane. Till that time you can enjoy on airport.
  12. If you have any doubt ask staff present there on airport.
  13. Inside plane find your assigned seat, keep your carry-on bags in the overhead compartments, fasten your seat belt (air-hostess will show how to fasten it)  and wait for your flight to depart. Don’t hesitate to ask any query from air hostess. They will also provide you eatables and drinks if you like.
  14. Now once you reach your destination you have to take your big Bag.
  15. You will be guided to come in a big hall at airport.
  16. See on which belt your bags are coming.(Belt number is announced in the flight. Also when you take your bags from belt its flight number and name are mentioned on the monitor over the belt.)
  17. Collect your bag and come outside
So simple....isn't it

Important things to keep in mind....
  • Keep in mind, each airport is different, so minor things like the layout of terminals and gates, quality of available airport services, type of restaurants and stores, will be very different between the various airport facilities.
  • Never give your any document or luggage to any person without proper verification.
  • Always ask flight authorities/staff for any help.
  • What if your check-in bag is missing from belt. Don’t panic. Look for the airline baggage office, usually located right there at baggage claim, and be prepared to fill out the paperwork. Usually they will tell you when you can expect your bag to arrive, and will provide transportation for your bag to your home or hotel.
