We went there from Pune on Aug 14, 2011 by our own car via easy access six lane Mumbai-Pune Expressway. It was a 1 day( morning-evening) trip. We reached there in around 1.5 hours. It was a cloudy day. There are all around so many hills covered with green plants with so many big water falls over it. We had a lot of fun under the water falls. Fantastic views can be seen from any point and in any direction. Its really the Heaven on earth. There is also a lake which is used to collect the water of these water falls which also provides good views. There is a Dam also where one can have unimagined fun.
We went up to Tiger Point which is about 10 KM away from Lonavala. Road has many steep and dangerous turns. It also provides fabulous views. There is one very big waterfall. To go there one has to descend for about 10-15 minutes over very rough and steep big slippery stones. But after going there, we had a great fun.
One another thing for which Lonavala is famous, is the chikki(a type of gachchak.)
Overall it was more than worth going there.....a must visit place for everybody.
Mumbai Pune expressway
Its official name is Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway. This is a classic example of developing India. It's a twelve-lane(six lanes for going to Mumbai and six lanes for coming back from Mumbai), high-speed access expressway. It has reduced time span between Mumbai and Pune from 5 hours(through National Highway) to 2 hours that leads to reduction of fuel consumption and thus reduction of pollution. It has also reduced chances of accidents. There is Ban for two wheelers, three wheelers and tractor vehicles. The road passes through scenic Sahyadri mountain ranges due to which one has to pass through amazing tunnels, valleys, water falls, cool breeze and clouds also. Going through the expressway leads us to the imaginary world of roaming around in Heaven. It's just an example of Incredible India.
